Percutaneous tenotomy or fasciotomy, TENEX, is a minimally invasive procedure that utilizes ultrasound-guided technology to remove damaged tissue. The patented ultrasound device helps leave healthy tissue intact while removing tissue that may be the source of pain. After the removal of damaged tissue, there is more space for soft tissue structures to create a natural healing response within the body.
Throughout the TENEX procedure, ultrasound imaging will be utilized in order to properly locate the damaged tendon tissue. A small incision will then be created right above the affected area to allow the small ultrasonic device to be positioned under the skin near the damaged tissue. This device administers ultrasonic frequency waves to help break down and remove the area of damaged tissue. The tendon then has more space, reducing pain and inflammation. The process will not hinder or damage any healthy tissue but will instead, allow it to recover properly.
What to expect
Patients may experience some slight tenderness or bruising near or around the injection site. This usually resolves within 1-2 days. Improvement will include pain relief and healing of tissues in 4-6 weeks.
