FAQ

Please examine the FAQ section, information changes frequently.

THE NO-COST SHARING COVID TEST OPTION IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR MEDICAL NECESSITY.

ALL OTHER PURPOSES FOR TESTING WILL REQUIRE AN OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSE.

How much do the rt-PCR, antigen, and antibody tests cost?

The rt-PCR, antigen and antibody tests are available at “no-cost sharing” (sometimes termed FREE tests). Loop Medical Center generates a charge for every single encounter. Please read to understand.

Depending on the circumstances, we may bill you directly or bill your insurance carrier. Regardless of who receives the bill, your insurance carrier is required by law to cover the full cost of your test and its administration as long as you received the test based on an individualized clinical assessment from a licensed or authorized health care provider. Contact your insurance carrier if you have questions about your coverage.

Families First Coronavirus Response Act generally prohibits private health insurance coverage or group health plans from imposing cost-sharing on both the test itself and the health care provider’s administration of the test, as long as the purpose of the testing is for your individualized diagnosis or treatment of COVID-19. However, health insurance plans are not generally required to provide coverage of COVID-19 testing for public surveillance or employment purposes. Short-term, limited duration insurance policies and “excepted benefits” policies may subject members to some portion of the provider’s fee.

Previously the United States Government allocated funds for individuals without insurance, regardless of citizenship or immigration status, and the provider could bill the Illinois HFS COVID or the federal HRSA COVID-19 Uninsured Program. However that fund is depleted and no longer available effective March 22, 2022 @11:59pm. Because of this change, Loop Medical Center will charge any patient who is uninsured the cash rates which are posted on our website for testing.

You also must present for yourself and your dependents the following documents:

If you have medical insurance please present or upload to your scheduling chart; a physical card or image of a card showing valid insurance or an ID/Group number is acceptable. We will verify this.

Please provide a valid, government picture identification in person and or upload to your own chart: driver’s license, passport, or a government-issued identification card, or any valid photo document showing your current address, date of birth.

While still in effect, if you do not have medical insurance, you must attest (sign) that you are without medical insurance to qualify for government HRSA fund coverage.

Please provide a valid, government picture identification in person or upload to your own chart: driver’s license, passport, or a government-issued identification card, or any valid photo document showing your current address, date of birth.

Lastly, if you require a test termed “emergency test” that results in 1 hour, we offer this option, but we are fully disclosing that this emergency rt-PCR is not eligible for no-cost sharing test. In fact, we do charge $400 for this commodity.

Overview of Testing for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

Please follow each link to understand the difference.

We offer sample collection via nose, cheek (buccal), or spit (saliva). All these are NAAT rt-PCR tests processed at our own onsite CLIA/COLA certified laboratory. Our laboratory is Certified by the CDC with CLIA number: 14D2189187. We have gone one step further to ensure our Laboratory is COLA Certified by the Lab Accreditation Bureau with COLA number: ID 30506

The highest level of evidence for test sensitivity, specificity and accuracy will always be Nasopharyngeal swab. This test can be very uncomfortable, therefore CDC released as a surrogate: a self-administered Anterior Nasal test now widely performed through the world. This test extrapolates similar sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy as the uncomfortable and the dreaded “tickle your brain” Nasopharyngeal swab.

Doctors, nurses, and medical assistants at Loop Medical Center will always perform Anterior Nasal Swab as a surrogate of Nasopharyngeal swab. If you require a buccal or saliva test, you can ask for it at the time of appointment.

Loop Medical Center continuously updates its practice based on Centers for Disease Control (CDC) testing standards. Please refer to the Overview of Testing for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) for details.

Types of rt-PCR testing we offer

By default, rt-PCR Anterior Nasal swab is a self administered test.
rt-PCR Nasopharyngeal swab is by request, please ask on site.
rt-PCR Saliva is by request, please ask on site.
rt-PCR Buccal swab is by request, please ask on site.

Rapid antigen testing

  1. Results will be available in 15 min from the time you take the test. You will get a verbal result if you choose to wait; or your results will publish to your portal by the end of the business day.
  2. We will bill your insurance or the HRSA Fund depending on your coverage. However, if your insurance or the HRSA Fund rejects it, you will be responsible for the fees.

How long does it take to get rt-PCR results?

If you arrive at either the Grand Avenue or South Loop location Monday to Saturday by 1pm, you will receive your result the same day. This is a no-cost sharing test (please see above for pricing). You are going to get the standard “PCR test” which you can travel and get clearance anywhere: this is indeed a laboratory derived rt-PCR (reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction). If you fall outside of these hours or go to another location your test will result the following business day.

NOTE: As rule, we do have one of the fastest results times in the nation and Chicago. However, we are in the middle of pandemic, while rare, there will be times when results may be slightly delayed. Please, please be patient, we are doing our best. Check your spam emails, spam text, check your portal account, and if still no results, email Covid@LoopMedicalCenter.com

How can I see the results of testing?

Please register for a portal account immediately after completing any test, you will need it to view your results. Access to your portal account will be provided after your initial visit. As soon as your results are available you will receive a text and or an email directing you to a portal account to view your results. Please specify at the time of collection if you require: QR code, passport number, our CLIA certificate, a stamp or signature and fill of any specific form you require. We can also print your results. If you require an emergent travel test, please book accordingly.

NOTE: if you do not receive an email or text notification, please check your spam folder, and log into your PORTAL account located on the top bar of our website.

Can I book a no-cost sharing rt-PCR test?

Our no-cost sharing rt-PCR test (with 24-hour turnaround from the end of business day) is available for all USA citizens, green card holders, students, legal or undocumented migrants. Must present a valid government-issued picture ID and have proof of address.

Weekend test result availability

The 24-Hour no-cost sharing test has limited availability of results delivered on Sundays. Test results will actually be ready in 48 hours if collected after 1:00pm on Saturday. If you need results before 2:00pm Monday, please choose the 1-hour test booking option, which delivers quick results 7 days a week.

Do I have to disclose my insurance?

Yes. We will bill your insurance or the HRSA Fund depending on your coverage. If you have insurance and opt to not provide, you will be at risk for audit through your insurance company.
